Skip-Through Reviews 10/2/26
Welcome, welcome to another exciting episode of Skip-Through Reviews. I’m your host, reporting liveeeeee!
Haha jk jk, but aye! What’s up everyone, hope y’all are doing well. Thank you for checking out another collection of reviews.
Episode 2 of the Skip-Through Review Recap Mix is up on Soundcloud and YouTube. It’s been getting some great attention so far, and I’ve also heard some amazing words of advice and minor criticisms. Biggest critique I’ve heard is that I should be putting time stamps with the songs of the mixes so that y’all can find the new artists more effectively. I love this idea. I will begin the process of listing it all out for Episode 1 and 2 this week.
Once again, if there is anything I missed or any other lil pieces of knowledge you want to send my way, don’t hesitate to.
Thank you all again for checking out the blog!
Ceebo — Bloccstar
This is a verrrry dope photo for the cover. It is giving Biggie with the crown, but more modern. Very nice photo.
A skit to start off is great. Lowkey a little too long tho haha. Nah, but the sound of this album is great. I really fuck with the energy on the first track “Parable Of A Skinnyman”, great way to kick it off. The beats of the next few track get kinda wild. Very bold sounds. It comes back around for me with “Macbeth’s Soliloquy” feat. Wretch 32, I am always going to love a simple boom bap beat and some bars.
I really enjoyed this album. Solid project really.
7/10
sincity — Awaiting Trial
Simple mix tape cover here. Nothing too wild.
The way he sings, it’s very Young Thug/Future vibe. I am assuming he is from Atlanta or somethin.
The beat on “Hold You” is wild haha. Sounds like some kid toys or something. Lowkey dope lil sound. “Power” is a bangerrrr. OOoooo! “Plutoski Freestyle” is FLYYYYY!!
Really dope project. Imma run a few of these tracks back fr.
8/10
Victoria Monet — Frequency Of Love
An absolutely lovely cover. Looks like some classic Janet Jackson or Whitney shit. I love it.
First few tracks are really solid. I really love the classic sound of “Care For Somebody (Interlude) very big band showtime time vibe. “Head To Toe” is a greattt track. “Juicy” is a super fun approach to a classic love track. “Money (Interlude)” is hilarious haha.
This was a very lovely R&B album. It’s lowkey hella long, but I am not too terribly mad about that.
7.5/10
NoCap — Heaven on Mars
Idk what this cover is, but I really like it. It has a great look to it.
First few songs are a dope singing type vibe. “Turks & Caicos” sorta changes that into a more familiar rap flow. I enjoy the sound of most of these tracks. I do love the dreamy feel of “Leverage”. Songs like this are ones I’d be singing out the window haha. There is a handful of these beat switch tracks that are super interesting. Usually a hype track followed by more of a mellow ting.
I enjoyed this album. Had some big gaps in it tho.
7/10
Carlina de Place — You Said Jump… And I Flew
I love the soft pink/purple tone of this cover. It’s very nice.
I love the sound of her voice. It’s just as soft and soothing as the cover implies. I really enjoy “You Said Jump”, which is sorta like the title track. “Go Wild” is a greaaaat track. Super fun energy here.
The whole album is great. I actually really enjoyed this. I don’t think it’s fair to throw this album in the Pop genre, it’s too vibe for that.
8/10
TENDOUJI — EASYPUNK
OOO, ANOTHER ALL CAPS REVIEW HAHA. THE COVER HERE IS CUTE. LOVE THE FONT WORK.
THIS IS A SUPER INTERESTING ALBUM. THEY ARE JAPANESE, BUT SINGING IN ENGLISH OVER THESE SUPER POP PUNK SOUNDING INSTRUMENTALS. THE LYRICS LOWKEY DONT MAKE SENCE, BUT THEY SOUND GOOD AND I THINK THATS THE POINT HAHA.
JUST NOT REALLY MY VIBE. I LIKE THE SOUND, JUST THE LYRICS CONFUSE ME.
6/10
Canine Cracks, Camion Bazar — Justify Yourself
I really love the look of the phot they chose for the cover here. I love the almost editorial look of it. The simple font choice is elevated by placement and color choice.
Off rip, the first track “Ciudad Juarez” gives this super spacey spooky vibe that I’m sorta into. I really enjoy the track “Justify Yourself”. And then heading into “The Fear”, they go for a much more synth rock vibe.
I really enjoyed this album. Super different sound that what I’ve heard this weekend.
7.5/10
The Paradox — Proceed With Caution - EP
Dope cover, looks like it is digital art.I wonder if there is any meaning behind it really.
I really love the track “Living Hell”. Super fun sounding Pop Punk vibe. I’ve been really loving all the pop punk vibes that have been popping up lately. “Good For Me” is a banger fr, such an anthem, I love it haha.
Such a fun project. Imma need to hear more from them. I bet a live show would be sick!
8/10
Timmy Regisford — Shelter 35
Very dope looking cover. Fun party look. I’d pick this up if I had seen it in a record store or something.
A lot of the first part of this album is cool. I really prefer my Dance music to have some fun audio samples. I really enjoy “My Life”, it’s always super dope to hear a song you recognize. Overall, the album is coo, for me, it can get a little repetitive at times, and I am surprised by how long some of the songs are.
6/10
Andrea Bejar — In Bloom
The cover for this album is very beautiful. I love this shot. It’s damn near perfect.
I really love that she is bouncing back and forth with English and Spanish lyrics. Both sound lovely. I really love the sound of this lovely soft approach to the music on this album. There are some great moments of this dope shakiness in her voice like on “The Shadow Of The Killer”. I really like the song “Wild Woman”.
Really lovely album. Super nice listening experience.
7.5/10
Cory Gunz — 96 Era
Coo NY rap style cover. Idk how to explain it, but that’s the vibe I’m getting haha.
The tape is fine. It’s really just Cory rapping. Which is great. I’m not a super huge fan of the beat selection, but he’s spittin.
6.5/10
LIL 2k — Still Afloat
I have no idea what’s goin on in this cover art haha. Looks crazy as hell.
Lowkey the music here is just as chaotic as the cover is. The levels are all over the place. The beats aren’t really exciting. Idk, just not a vibe really.
5.5/10
Sky Bad — Everybody Hates Chris
The cover is a rip of the show. Maybe with a photo of the artist as a kid tho. Simple but effective haha.
I really like “Choppa Lessons” feat. SQUASH, love the lyrics and energy of the track. After that the album just turns coo to me. Nothing super stand outish.
6.5/10
TEAR DUNGEON — Squirm
YO… This cover is insane. I love it. No notes.
Track number 2, “Charlie Kirk’s Neckhole Fleshlight” is a banger. Also “Red Flag” is great. Even though it is repetitive, the energy keeps shifting throughout. Super dope. “Kill For Health” is a hit too.
Overall love the sound of this album. I think it’s the perfect ratio of harder punk intrumentals and screaming at a level that I can understand. I fuck with it.
7.5/10
Quavo — QROMELIFE
Cover is fine. Good photo… I guess haha
Tbh, I’m iffy about this review. I haven’t heard anything good from this guy in years. We’ll se tho…
Well, Future has a great verse on “BA”. Bruh, what are these beats he’s choosing haha. Bruh, wtf is this “Baby Breath” song feat. A$AP Rocky, Tyler the Creator, and Pharrell.. Not one of them had a goo verse. “Factory Trim”, is a solid track.
Another mediocre album by Quavo.
4.5/10
