Kept it light this week since I was hella busy at work, but that didn’t stop the weekend from delivering some really dope tracks!
I am temporarily pausing our weekly CD reviews. I want to further develop that series into something a little more substantial, so stay tuned!

Jasmine C — How to plant a Flower - EP
I love the look of this cover. It feels very “made at home”.
This EP is classified as “Mandopop”, which I figure is Pop music in Mandarin, so I won’t be understanding what she’s saying here, but I’ll pick up on the vibes I’m sure.
This music sounds like some Disney princess shit. I’m not mad at it fr. It’s cute. The song “Fortune Cookie (Uncracked Version)” is actually sung in English, and I think it’s really nice.
Cute lil project. Very nice.

Gucci Mane — Against All Odds
Classic looking Gucci album cover. This coulda came out 20 years ago and I woulda believed you.
Haha seems like Gucci is talking a lot of shit on this project. “Y’all make me sick” is a great jumping off point. Really just talking shit fr haha. “STFU” is a banger. “Rich ass n***a” is a classic ATL banger. I love this really classic sound on this project. It really feels like a DatPiff mixtape or something.

Tinie Tempah — The Night’s Not Dead
Very cool looking sketchy cover. I really like the look of this.
I love the soft start to this album. Loved hearing the scene be set. Where he was once to where he is today. “Eat It Up” feat. Skepsis & Carla Monroe is a bangerrrr. Love the energy of this track. “10 Minuets Later” was on an EP that I reviewed in August I think. Such a fun vibe. Super happy I was able to hear a full project by this guy. “Energy” feat. Alex Mills is a vibeeeee!! Such a fun track. I really love this genre. Amazing instrumentals and fun vocals.

Babyfxce E — The X Tape 2
This cover is a Project X rip, and I love it. Great cover.
I think “Fully Loaded” is a banger, but it lowkey gets a little repetitive. I wish the beat changed up a bit or something. “What Else” is a banger. The first few songs have a very particular bright sound to them that I am not fully into. Lowkey a long ass album too, but there are a lot of solid tracks here. If they woulda put like 12 tracks instead of 21, this woulda been a wild project fr!
Super fun album tho. Few tracks on here that I really like.

Rachel Chinouriri — I think I spoke too soon
Coo simple photoshoot. I think They coulda done a bit more, bit it is still coo.
Really loving the sounds of the instrumentals on this album. It is like disco/pop maybe a kiss of punk in there too. “Favourite desperation” is a really dope track. You can really see that hint of punk on the song “AAAHHH!!!”.
I really love the soft airiness of her voice throughout the album. Sorta floating over these heavy and sometime distorted instrumentals.

Harrry — trackytracks
I really love this air brushed looking cover here. A skater doing some sort of flip trick.
I wonder if harrry is a producer maybe? Cause it seems like there is mostly features. I love the instrumentals and vibes of each track really. “4X4” feat. Miso Extra & loveyouinthemorning (Crazy name tbh hahah), this song is solid. Really like “said so” feat. LEGZDINA as well.
Really fun and quick project.

SamCooper — RoughNecK: The Voice
Clean, simple portrait for the cover. Very nice warm look.
He is bouncing through a couple languages, not sure what they are tho. Sounds dope tho! I guess he is from South Africa. “Bothata” is a bangerrr fr. I really am enjoying the sound of the production on this album. Every song sound great.

Sugar.U — Sweet Sugar
Coo lil photo of her. Giving Mariah Carey or something. Real R&B diva, early/mid 2000s vibe.
She’s like the Japanese Mariah. Legendary pull this week. Listen to “Promise” and tell me this isn’t a Mariah song.
This album is coo. I love the energy. I think that if she leaned heavier into one aspect of the R&B genre, this would be fire, but she sorta vibe hopped a little too much.

Nao — Autumn
Very lovely cover. I could see this as a vinyl. Easy. I’d cop.
“Equinox” is a lovely way to open the album. I feel like it sets the scene. I’m at a bar or something. They are about to kill it. I’m lit. The end of “Burst” is a whoolllee vibe. I love it. Just people going insane on their instruments. I love how ominous “Save The World” sounds. “Eugene” is a bangerrr. The bass is BOUCYYY. Love this track.
Really enjoyed this album.

Riah — Is This What It’s Like To Be Happy? - EP
I really like the way that they edited this cover. It really elevated what would have been a pretty basic photo.
I really love how on “better alone”, the guitar almost sounds like a clock ticking in the silence of her loneliness. Very dope lil vibe. Every song has this little build up that I think is interesting. Always gradually gets more energy in every song.
Fun lil album, nothing wild tho.
