So obviously, we’ve stepped away from the individual album reviews for a little. Looking to give ourselves more time to work out some of the more busy work, like design stuff and potential merch work. We’ll be working on bringing the individual album reviews back ASAP tho, so don’t hate me.
This weekend had some solid tapes. I felt myself gravitating towards the Rap albums a little more heavily this week, so not a lot of obscure genre reviews this time around.

That Mexican OT — Cucuy
Spooky looking cover. Like an alien invasion or something.
This album is fine. There really wasn’t anything that stood out to me as being particularly interesting. I feel like in the past, he’s had a few tracks here n there, but this album just didn’t hit for me.

Yeat & Lyfestyle Corporation — Luh Leakyz Vol. 1

“Time Passed” is a dope vibe. I have always appreciated Yeats ability to curate a vibe. There are a few less than exciting tracks here too tho. I do like how spooky “SKLUB” sounds tho. Some of these songs sound really quiet too, so that’s a bummer. “HeliMAn” has a super interesting sound. The way he uses his voice here is dope.
This is a coo lil project. For just a bunch of songs, this is a coo collection.

Anderson .Paak & Cordae — Heavy Is The Crown
Love the Step-Brothers cover. Very silly.
“58th Floor” is a suuuuper dope way to start this album. I’m hyped for this. WHOA. They follow it up with “Airbender” which is ALSO a bangerrrr! It’s super exciting to hear Anderson .Paak spit like this, I feel like he’s been on a legendary run. “Days Go By” is a dope chill song. Something to ride around to. Love that they ended the album with BARS. “Godfather II” is a great showing of some sick lyrics.
Loved this album fr.

John Legend — Muse
Verrrry fly cover. Full band. Black n white. Fly shit.
Another Pharrell produced albummmm! This guy has been busy. But… Last album with Quavo wasn’t really it. Let’s see how this one is. First song, “Muse” is lowkey lame haha. Few of these songs are just not super interesting. “Daylight” is a fun track tho! “Are You Ok?” Feat. Pharrell is a fun spooky sounding song. I like these band introductions of different songs. I wish they were more prominently featured. “Sail Off” is a coo way to end the album, but I wish there was more of this vibe really.
Felt like the album was lowkey not as exciting I hoped for it to be.

Haha what is this cover? I love it. But it is wild fr. I hope it isn’t AI. Lame that that has to be a concern.

Simple photo of the singer for the cover. Looks like a solid photo tho. Love the colors.
This short project was fine. I guess I just didn’t really resonate with any of the songs in particular. The vocals were fine. The instrumentals were coo. But nothing super hyped going on here for me.

Young Chris — Catch a Vibe
I like this cover! It’s almost like some Banksy pop art type vibe.
Oooo, starts off the album with “Still Fine Dining” and it’s just barsss. But look, I wish that “Sativa On The Roof” had a more exciting instrumental like “Disappointed” feat. Icewear Vezzo. I like the energy of the rest of the tape, but it’s just a little short, so the vibe shifts a little too fast for me. Wish there was a better bridge between the paces of the music.

FullyChop — 99 Overall
Coo looking cover. Simple, warm looking painting of the rapper. Sure hope it isn’t AI.
“Takis” is a banger. I am liking the bounce these songs have off rip. I love how spooky the piano sounds on “Nonsense”. Honestly, a lot of these songs have that same spooky tones all over. Whoever is overseeing this album and whatever else FullyChop is working on, is doing a great job at making sure the volume of everything is really solid.
I fuck with this vibe fr.

Zimmer90 — Endless Summer - EP
Very nice photo of them seemingly making music by the coast. Cool that they brought their desk haha
I love the synthy sorta pop that we get with “Summer Nights” fun way to start the album! Follows up with some weirder tunes. “Nothing Is Right” is a super interesting vibe. “Nautica” is such a lovely way to end the project. Soft and it just gently guides you to the end of it all.
Fun tape! I would love to hear some more!

KiKi Celine — Everything That Broke Me - EP
The cover here is fine. It really isn’t anything game changing.
This album feels oddly young to me. Idk how else to explain it. I just feel like the tone of it all felt a little brighter than I was expecting. It’s labeled as R&B/Soul, bit it was deff giving more of a Pop energy.

Ilkay Sencan — Origin
I like this cover. A lovely overhead shot of a coffee maybe. Very well shot and put together.
First song, “Badabum Cha Cha” feat. ARVIII has such a familiar sound. I am curious what beat it sampled to get this sound. The album bounces through all these crazy different cultural sounds and mixes them. Super weird fr.

Sophia Hajduk — mgla
I really love this cover. The use of the layered text over the lovely black and white image.
The sound of her voice is great. The vibe of the music is really cool too. I just with that the energy what higher. There are points like in “korepetycje” where the energy picks up and I got excited, but it didn’t last long.
Lovely group of songs tho.

Boo Seeka — Cigarettes On Sundown
I LOVE THIS COVER. But damn… I bet it’s AI… Ugh.
First couple of songs are coo. Lowkey some radio pop. “Winona Ryder” was a dope lil stand out for me in the first half. “In The Making” is a cute song. I might not be a super fan of this whispery sound the singer has when they sing.

Super dope cover art for this tape. I love how gnarly it looks.\
This EP starts off super strong with “W’S” feat. Xlimkid. And then has a few whatever tracks, but I really like “More bands” feat. Jayduh.
Cool lil short project, nothing revolutionary tho. I love hearing the language variations.

Coo cover honestly. Really dope angle of this photo they chose. Looks like Gotham.
I really love the sound effects littered throughout this tape, like on “Eye For An Eye” feat. SJ, they threw a bunch of fun lil sounds. “Scales” is a really dope lyrical showing for him, simple instrumental, but the lyrics are sick.
I liked this album quite a bit, there was a couple moments where I wished that there was more energy, but for the most part is was solid. I feel like a lot of rap music now a days is really missing a good chorus.
