M!sSUNDAZTOOD — P!nK

What a pull! Had my girl pull a random CD out of the collection and was sorta excited to jump into 2001 with P!nk’s second album M!ssundaztood. Such a time capsule. Showing a woman trying to fight her way into the spotlight with this alt/anti-industry persona that she may have had to subdue leading up to this moment.

The cover art and overall packaging design is really tailored to this albums theme and singer. It is in fact pink, and she is looking very “rough and tough” surrounded by her “graffiti”. The photography is really well done. I love how bright it looks and how the light makes P!nk seemingly glow. The grungy looks only double down once you tear open the booklet. Black pages with chain fences and halftones. I love the inclusion of this centerfold photo halfway through the book.

Leading this album is a fun lil boppy title track that really lays out the albums themes. Really battling with herself here. The instrumental is solid, simple and fun. Same with her vocals! Nothing super crazy, she isn’t belting any lyrics here, just simple singing trying to lay the foundation for you. I enjoy the sound of it, but it does drag into this moment of her doing this weird “UGH” sound that I didn’t really enjoy haha.

Closing out the album with “My Vietnam”. P!nk chose a song where she compares her life to the Vietnam War. Kinda insane, song isn’t the best anyways.

This album defiantly reminds me of certain moments as a kid hearing these songs in the car or out nd about. P!nk was on a crazy run for a few years. I guess that run came with some conflicting issues with people (and maybe herself) about how she wanted to perceived and represented. Happy to see that she was able to run with the look she felt most at home with.
